IT Courses “Reassuringly Expensive?
Funny lady Linda Smith used to say, “I love Waitrose – it’s that little bit more expensive.
It seems that until the recent credit crunch, we consumers were sold the view that “It must be good if it costs that much, or Low prices for cheap goods. The marketing boys had it all sewn up – picture the juicy shots on the M&S ads, with “This is not ordinary food, this is…. On the other hand, the supermarkets Value or Basic ranges were bought by the penny pinchers but not by you and I.
In Computer courses, high price colleges (surely they’re the best - if you have the funds - why else would they be so well known?) acknowledged that colleges exist who’ll do it cheaper but be careful, it won’t be as good.
Then lo and behold, the economy is in tatters, and all at once value takes priority! Middle class mummies stop visiting Waitrose, and instead head towards Aldi and Lidl. City bankers and their large bonuses are the curse of the devil, and we all think again about who we’re buying from.
Have we been fooled by companies charging more? Look a little closer into the UK training market, and maybe the big boys with their fancy prices are not all they seem. Just because there’s a great need for greater numbers of skilled IT professionals, are we really getting a good deal coughing up 5k–8k to be trained in these skills, or are these prices outdated? It’s a bit rich that many computer training providers are behind the times - supplying students with pen and paper methods. Why do students have to pour over books when all information can be downloaded in this communication age? Why should we drive to training centres, paying even more for our hotel bills to support their overheads? 24/7 Interactive training should be available for me when and where it works best for me – at my convenience, but not at my cost.
With more comprehensive, easier training options available at a fraction of the cost of these prices, shouldn’t we acknowledge the fact that in terms of electronic learning, value is higher quality for a more reasonable price. We’re moving on in Computer training – in marketing terminology, it’s “Taste the Difference goods for “Basic prices. In this knowledge hungry world of today, that’s welcome news.
